"Alone at Dusk" 26/6/2022

Across the clouds, the setting sun bled
And I saw great tongues of fire
The sky turned a blood red
As they wailed in their silent choir

Trembling with anxiety
and breathing the smoke
of two million burning acres
I sensed an infinite scream
Passing through all of nature

"Arcadia (a night of winter, a thousand years of spring )" ??/??/2022 (part of a larger incomplete poem)

Last night I dreamed
of iridescent mountainsides
shimmering seas of wet grass
in the deepest green tides

Desultory and alone
So far will I roam
From the gentle shores
Where lay our home
Awaking is the mania
Of a return to arcadia

"Selbstüberwindung / Kali" 6/29/22

Sail not into the setting sun
Do not blind yourself from the waxing of the moon
So soon will darkness fall now the day is done
And voices shall cry for the light of noon
But sail not into the setting sun

Go forth into the darkness
And march unto the unbroken dawn
For the sun is always rising
Even as it sets
Even when it is gone

"Drum dancing around the fire" 25/1/2023

January
No moon
No streetlights

The highway is silent
I think it's been a few hours
Every night the fog is thicker and darker
Too dense to drive
I left my car in the dirt
With the hazards on

The ground pulses a deep shade of red
Brakelights
A heartbeat in the earth
Frequencies
Oscillations
Waves
A red lighthouse
An empty sea
It fades into the distance
As I sink into the treeline
Nothing but the sound of gravel crunching underfoot

There's something deeper in the trees
Drawing me in
High up in the looming evergreens
Suspended in the air
Pulsing
Beating
Pumping blood
A vivid red radiating
Through the thick groves
In each heartbeat
Every branch and leaf glows
Emerging from the night
Then vanishing again

The Machine
A creature of metal
Gangly and towering among the trees

Something invisible
Is in the air
Passing through me
Burning into me
Like a million staring eyes
A rhythm you can never hear
A light you can never see
Resonating in distant and unseen places
Neurons crossing the entire world

Even now
As these silently written words
Speak a voice into your head
The maw of the machine whispers in every mind
A silent rhythm
A hole at the center of everything
Hidden in the algorithm

The Cities of Glass (6/11/23)

I went to visit a wall
Two million years old
Twenty foot thick of solid stone

but the way was blocked
gated communities, McMansions
private roads, country clubs
a golf course, an equine center.
Diablo will burn early this year.

California will fall to drought and fire
The sky will bleed itself red
and blot out the sun
McMansions wither in dark ash
The seventh bowl is poured from heaven
unto the valley of silicon
The cities of glass will shatter in an instant.
Only the cities of stone
Will weather a thousand years more.

"the son" 4/4/2022

A world made of change
of life lived in waves
cyclical self destruction
each crest heralds graves
searching for a sublime lie
for something that saves
an escape from the grip
of the great facade
for the son so loved the world
that he killed his only god

"Into the Mist" ~11/14/19?

Through tightened block
Cleat the sail
Hike broadly your head
Past the rail
In the furious waves
That beckon hail
Tame the ocean
By line and hand
Deep into the mist
Far away from land

currently untitled, forgot when i started this one. 2023

Blazed into the sky, the brilliance of day
Darkness cowered and clouds cast away
Amber voices beamed down on me
Angels sing and choir pray
And in my veins, drums beat
Around me the wind rose,
And I felt it rise in my lungs
I turned my face into the blinding light

I saw daybreak
And from out of the night
Came searing forth the brilliant sun
In blazing rays angels sang
Crying how bright
All was brought into the day
Trapped in amber light
Burn and rave, rising sun
An indomitable, eternal will
Above all rises one
Upon emerald meadows
And shimmering crystal seas
Golden fire rains down
Upon the cold winter’s breeze
The sweet taste at last

The Sublimity of the Wind(edit#2); 4/15/2022 drafted 3/10/2022

From every mountain top she wails and sings
A howling upon the height
She is there in the flap of birds' wings
In delicate grace of flight
A gentle touch of air by day
But wrathful gales by Night
She makes dress flutter and hair sway
Sailing ship and flying kite

To her, forests bow and yield
The great harbinger of mist and cloud
Which fall upon plow and field
Across the lands a drifting shroud

In sky and in showers
Only from her the steep grows
To blooming meadows of flowers
All that we reap, she sows

Fire writhes before her call
As it fears her omen
Waves rise, crest, and fall
On the piers of every ocean
Even the dry deserts crawl
In a thousand years of motion
Under her cry and her thrall
Peaks and poles are frozen

Through all she flows
Above all she towers
Where the wind blows
Beauty overpowers

7/14
a billion acres will burn
the sky will scream in shades of blood
and darkness blot out the sun
over in their sleep the mountains will turn
and tides will rise to flood
titan waves crash upon every shore
cities of glass will shatter in an instant
only half-sunken cities of stone
will remain anymore

8/3

the primordial human form
A silhouette on the ridgeline
Small against the stars
but it’s presence colossal
as it held up the sky
to fear the dark is ancient
but it is only human
to revere the impermanence of day

The tree knows not
of the world that has changed around it
it still reaches up to the sky
just the same as it would have
hundreds of millions of years ago
desperate, yearning
as if there were still god in the sky
reaching out as people once did
it knows not that they stopped
or ever prayed to begin with
it only lives the eternal truth
The infinite overcoming
of its own existence

8/4
Remembering deeds regretted
And struggles won
Stands a warrior silhouetted
Against the dying sun

8/5
Two boys sit
In a fairytale woods
long after the old civilization of sciences fell
they have much to muse about
much to say
in this picnic
at the base
of the colossal stones

8/10?
Dragged into the burning streets
the screens were smashed
Like wild dogs
breaking chains
devouring their master
7/23
All their words had been lost too soon
As their computers were made to die
Ancient civilization left behind only one message
Still engraved in stone
"In an emergency, break glass"

You're taking the bus in a city you've never been in before
A country you've never been in before
You landed hours after sunset
You didnt sleep on the flight
The bus lights are dim blue
Jostling on the shaky suspension
You think of who you've been waiting to see
For such a long time
They said they would have a hot meal
Ready for when you arrive
Just dont fall asleep yet
